Professor
Dr.
Birgit Brock Utne
Several years of working and living in Africa, long experience in doing
consultancies within the education sector in developing
countries in Asia and Africa have led to the establishment
of the consultancy firm EDCON (Education and Development
Consulting). In the years 1987 – 1992 the Director of EDCON
worked as a Professor at the University of Dar es Salaam and
learnt to speak, read and write Kiswahili.
Professor Dr.
Birgit Brock Utne has for many years worked as a Professor of Education and Development at
the University of Oslo, Norway and built up the research and
evaluation network NETREED (Network for Research and
Evaluation of Education for Development).
Professor Dr.
Birgit Brock Utne is the Norwegian project leader of the research project LOITASA
(Language of Instruction in Tanzania and South Africa). She
has had consultancies for NORAD, the Norwegian Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, the Namibian Ministry of Education, DANIDA,
GTZ, DEZA, UNICEF, UNESCO and the World Bank. She is fluent
in Norwegian, German, English, Kiswahili and can understand
and read French. Her main areas of competency are:

Secondary schooling in developing countries

Higher education in developing countries
She has, however, also done consultancies within programmes dealing with
fishery biology, management of natural resources and
sustainable agriculture and the forestry sector in Africa.

Birgit Brock Utne has a vast network of colleagues in other consultancy firms and in
universities in the South and the North and will be able to
give advice as to selecting people with other research and
consultancy profiles to build a good team. |
